Before you deploy anything, you should know what to count on. This is what we tested on real boxes, and where the limits are.
AdminSTB requires Android 7 or higher. We tested it on Android 7 and later. We have not tested Android 6 and do not guarantee it.
These are the hardware families where AdminSTB is running. This is a list of what we tested, not a technical limit: if your model is not listed, try it first on the free plan with one unit before deploying the fleet.
What AdminSTB can do depends on how the agent is installed on the box. Installing it as a system app grants privileged permissions without needing root; on white-label boxes this is usually done once, with root access or from the firmware image.
| Capability | System app | With root | User app |
|---|---|---|---|
| Telemetry and diagnostics every 15 minutes | ✓ | ✓ | ✓ (some data needs permissions) |
| Silent agent update | ✓ | ✓ | Asks for on-screen confirmation |
| Real screenshot | ✓ | ✓ | Diagnostic board, not the image |
| Install, uninstall and stop background apps | ✓ | ✓ | Limited |
| Remote reboot | ✓ | ✓ | ✓ |
| Remote shell commands | Those that do not require privileges | All, including those that require root | Those that do not require privileges |
Data such as the Wi-Fi SSID, the foreground app and per-app usage requires permissions that are granted when the agent is installed. On certified boxes (for example onn or ZTE) updates are not silent: they ask for confirmation on screen.
Sign-up is self-service: create your account, install the agent on one device, and see it in the dashboard. The free plan includes 1 device so you can verify compatibility with your box before scaling.
